Leo T. Sullivan is a Canadian saxophonist, flutist, composer, and jazz author whose career spans more than five decades. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Leo picked up the tenor saxophone in high school and stepped onto the professional stage shortly after graduating in 1974.
Through the 1970s and 80s, Leo became a recognizable voice in the Canadian jazz scene—playing lead tenor with the Mohawk College Jazz Band, recording a CBC Jazz Radio Canada special of original works, and performing in Toronto’s vibrant hotel and club circuit, including the Sheraton and Yorkville’s iconic Octobers. In 1984, he moved north to join the legendary Deerhurst Inn in Muskoka.
Leo co-recorded two acclaimed big band albums with his brother Patrick — No Compromise (1978) and Stairway Down to the Stars (1980) — both showcasing many of Toronto’s future jazz heavyweights. His debut solo album Natural Sax followed soon after, establishing him as a distinctive and expressive instrumental voice.
In the 1990s, Leo’s musical path expanded internationally. He toured with Grant Smith & The Power, performed with The Bobby Herriot Orchestra at Toronto’s Old Mill Inn, and spent nearly a decade traveling the world as a cruise-ship musician, sharing the stage with legendary entertainers including Rosemary Clooney, Toni Tennille, Charo, Don Rickles, Bob Newhart, The Temptations, and more.
Beyond the stage, Leo has composed for television, recorded on numerous artists’ CDs, and authored two historical jazz books. In recent years, he has built and maintained more than sixty-five nonprofit jazz websites—preserving stories, recordings, and musical legacies for future generations.
Today, Leo continues to compose, record, write, and create — blending a lifetime of performance experience with a passion for storytelling and musical heritage.
